2 fairs help the jobless turn difficulties into positive motivation

Christian Action and the Employees Retraining Board (ERB) jointly organized the 2009 CA General Job Fair in late June at Mong Kok Community Hall. Exhibitions and seminars were held to introduce the programmes of Manpower Development Scheme and interested parties were able to join the programme on the spot. Additionally, talks on current topics were arranged to share tips on interviewing techniques under the recent economic situation.

Employers from 12 corporations (18 brand names) covering 7 industries set up counters at the fair and conducted on-the-spot job recruitment. During the event, 1,000 job vacancies were made available, with about 80% of the jobs on offer comprising full-time jobs with a monthly salary ranging from HK$5,000 to $15,000. The majority of the vacancies required F.5 educational level and under.

Over 1,000 application forms were distributed at the fair and nearly 600 interviews were conducted on site. More than 40 people successfully secured offers mostly from security and sales positions, while over 100 more applicants were able to confirm second interviews.

One of the best methods to help the jobless turn difficulties into positive motivation is continuous education, therefore, on June 26 and 27, we joined the ¡§Jobmarket Education & Youth Job Fair¡¨ organized by Jobmarket. We introduced a number of courses to the public, such as ERB courses, Self Enhancement courses and a Skills Upgrading Scheme. We received 200 course applications at the fair.
