Action commenced a one-year project - "Mutual Help Project for Parents of
New Arrival Children" in 2000. The Project is supported by the Quality Education
Fund to promote mutual support among parents of new arrival children enrolled
in four village schools. Through this project, New Arrival parents have
built up good relationships with each other and set up mutual help network
in order to familiarise themselves with the social resources. Major initiatives
include parents' workshops and community tours focusing on child psychology,
parenting skills, and access to community facilities. Additionally, we have
produced three issues of a newsletter as well as two issues of parents'
resource booklets. These publications have proved very popular and helped
to raise parents' awareness of the stresses their children face and to help
their children in adapting to their new environment. They have also equipped
them to steer their children through any rough patches they may encounter. |
