Yau Tsim Mong District Integrated Service Project for New Arrivals

In order to reach out to more new arrivals, our New Arrival Service Team - Yau Tsim Mong District was established in mid 1999. We adopt an outreach method and case management approach to visit the new arrivals and their families within the district, thus helping them integrate into the local society within the shortest possible time. The wide acceptance of our service further strengthens our commitment to deliver new and prompt services As a continuation of this outreach service, the Integrated Service team moved into the newly set up Mong Kok Service Centre since January, 2001 with generous support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. Besides intensive case management, we have also carried out a series of social adaptation and community integration programmes ranging from community walks, family day camps, Christmas gatherings, sports competitions, elderly service projects, and community carnivals, which give opportunities for New Arrivals to interact with locals. From August 1999 to May 2005, we helped around 1,700 families, the person-times of beneficiaries is more than 56,000.

In order to let their parents able to go out and work, Mong Kok Centre has organized Mutual Help After-school Care Service for New Arrival Families for New Arrival children from the Yau Tsim Mong district. New Arrival women assist as "sitters", which increases their confidence and capability to work. From May 2001 to June 2005, the person-times of service receivers is 2256 in total, more than 60 students in average benefited in this service every month.

At the same time, CA provides District-based Employment Support Network for unemployed New Arrivals with information, advice and support in their search for a job. It looks for suitable vacancies, gives interview training and also runs vocational training courses. Services include free use of computers and the internet, lectures and small group training and support.
