Cross-cultural Family Buddy Network
A supportive network for ethnic minority
and local Chinese families


Objectives:

• Capacity building and empowerment of ethnic minority (EM) children and women living in Yau Tsim Mong (YTM) District for their better social integration in Hong Kong.
  
  
• Develop self-confidence and economic viability for socially segregated women.
  
  
• Cross-sector collaborations with schools, NGO, companies and shop networks aim at bridging social and cultural gaps of EM and Chinese families, building up social capitals and community supportive networks to promote racial and social harmony.

Target:

Ethnic minority and local Chinese families

Strategies:

• Through collaborations with Jordan Road Government Primary School, tertiary institutions, churches and NGOs, EM and Chinese children will be empowered in "After-school Family Buddy Scheme" to become buddies and learn from each other in language exchanges and joint volunteering.
  
  
• Train up children's mothers to join "Cross-cultural Women Ambassador Training" to become cultural food ambassadors, create mutual aid and income generation opportunities for empowerment and community participation, in partnership with Hongkong Electric Holdings Ltd. and shops in YTM district.

After-school Family Buddy Scheme

Ethnic minority and Chinese children learn through homework guidance, Buddy Reading Scheme and parent-child activities.
