Language is Power! Moving to a new country can be a very difficult and overwhelming experience, especially if you do not understand the language and customs of your new home. Without adequate knowledge of Cantonese or English, ethnic minorities and new arrivals face a tough time trying to find accommodation, apply for jobs or access services they are entitled to. Christian Action understands these difficulties. In 2003, sponsored by Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau, we launched a series of language courses for ethnic minorities. Each course runs for 50 hours, during which you get the opportunity to learn either Cantonese or English, as well as gaining an invaluable insight into Hong Kong life and culture. An integral part of the course is an excursion, for example a day trip to Stanley market, where you can practice the language with native speakers. All courses are taught by qualified teachers – so you can be assured of getting the best possible tuition, for a minimal fee of only $100! Courses are run at convenient times, to allow students to work while they study. To enrol for a class, prospective students will have to complete a short test to ascertain their level of language. Those with no experience of the language will automatically be enrolled onto a beginners’ course. All students who attend a minimum of 80% of classes will receive a Certificate of Attendance from Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau. Don't miss out! For more information on English courses, please contact 2362-1922 (Monday to Saturday), 6575-2103 (Sunday) For more information on Cantonese courses, please contact 3422-3820 (Monday to Saturday).
