Give thanks to God! The Xining Civil Affairs Bureau is exploring a collaborative partnership with Christian Action (CA) to improve sheltered housing and provide sheltered workshops for special needs adults and some elderly persons at the Xining Social Welfare Institute.

Today our training services will launch a programme to facilitate community building between housewives, including skills training to improve their self confidence, opportunities for community service, and improve the possibility of securing employment. Pray that they would understand the power and importance of community.

Please pray for the children from our new arrivals service centre attending our after-school programme. Many return home late at night, to wait, unsupervised, for their parents to finish long, exhausting workdays. Pray for them as they navigate the path from childhood to adulthood in such vulnerable circumstances.    4

Today three year old Pande will arrive in Hong Kong from Huangnan Children’s Home for surgery. Please pray for her during the preparation phase, upcoming operation, and for a full and speedy recovery.

Please pray that more unemployed welfare recipients will learn from Mr. Keung, one of our clients who has been transformed through our volunteer programme, and nominated for the “HSBC Share to Care Volunteer Campaign”. Pray that more people realize the transformational power of serving our fellow men.   6

Give thanks. We have secured the funding we need to continue our services to new arrival and single parent families. Through a variety of programmes we will continue to empower them to build community, and achieve independence.

Three of the ladies living in our shelter for Domestic Helpers and Migrant Workers have been diagnosed with Leukemia or breast cancer. Pray for strength, comfort, help and healing directly from God as they battle for their health. May God be with them in this difficult time.   8

Our Social Enterprise Programme is currently exploring a partnership with a church network in Hong Kong to distribute donated household items to the elderly and single parent families. Pray that they will make the right connections, and find the resources to launch this project soon.

Give thanks! Our friends who attended the vision sharing dinner for the children of Qinghai were greatly moved and reached deep into their pockets to support our work there. Pray that we would continue to build our donor network in the USA.

Praise God. A large corporation is supporting a one year extra curricular activities programme for underprivileged children, and raise public awareness of how to break the cycle of inter-generational poverty.

The shortage of housing in Hong Kong continues to push rents to unprecedented highs. Please pray for Mrs. Cheung, our executive director who, as a member of the Hong Kong Housing Authority’s Subsidized Housing Committee, endeavors to find sustainable solutions to this problem that affects so many of our clients.   12

Today is our 28th Birthday! Pray that we will continue to be a light to the most vulnerable and a voice for the voiceless in an increasingly complicated socio-political situation.

Please pray for two of our children as their prospective adoptive parents go through the long, complicated international adoption process. Pray for speedy conclusion so that both children can join their forever families soon.     14

Urgent! The participants in our Student Affairs & Youth Training Programme (YETP) are early school leavers who lack the motivation to learn, and have little desire to join the workforce, and have no vision for the future. Please pray for them.

Praise God! The Training Services Division hosted ‘Job Fair 2013’, for the fifth year running. Many of the attendees managed to secure second-round job interviews at the job fair itself! Pray that our dynamic training programmes would continue to equip people to re-enter the job market with such ease!

Today volunteers from the Hong Kong Tourism Board will be teaching new arrivals children about Christmas, (an unfamiliar western concept) through a cake making activity. Pray that this prepares the hearts of the children to receive the true message of Christmas: the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Saviour.

Recruiting Christian mentors for our Child Development Fund Programme remains an important and ongoing need. Mentors assist, lead and guide the participants in many of their life decisions, and ultimately teach them that God also has a plan for their lives. Please pray for caring mentors to help our children again.   18

Give thanks!  The musicians at last month’s fundraising concert sent out a passionate message about the importance of serving the poor among us. The concert also raised over HK$300,000 so we can continue to do this work.

Please pray for our Christian Action Asia team as they launch their year end fundraising campaign to all our American supporters to join our child sponsorship programme. Pray that they will recognise God moving in Qinghai, and show their support through prayer and finance.    20

Our Training Services Division will host their annual corporate luncheon today. Pray for us as we offer them our training services, which generate funds to partially finance our humanitarian services for underprivileged families.

Today is Thanksgiving!
Thank you Lord for making it possible for Christian Action to follow Jesus’ example,  ministering to the marginalized in Hong Kong and China. We are blessed to be serving just as he did.

Please stand with us in prayer as we coordinate an event next month to bring together various parties lobbying for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers during their sojourn in Hong Kong. United we will present a stronger front.

Please pray for more volunteers to support our foreign domestic helpers as they are forced to endure stressful tribunal appearances in order to claim their unpaid wages and other entitlements.         24

Please pray for our ethnic minority clients and local Hong Kong Chinese as they participate in a planned activity designed to facilitate community integration. Pray that introductions will grow into friendships that cross over religious, ethnic, cultural and racial boundaries.

Please pray for new arrival adults as we offer them the training and support services they need to become active working members of the Hong Kong community, thereby quickly integrating with the local population.   26

Winter is near!
Please pray for refugees and asylum seekers during the bleak, cold winter months. We will be distributing warm winter clothing over the next few weeks, but only the Holy Spirit can comfort their hearts which may have grown cold through disappointment and hardship.

Let’s continue to pray for Christian Action UK for Godly wisdom, determination and foresight as they make important decisions to strategize to raise funds for the needy on the Tibetan Plateau.   28

This month we will launch a volunteer programme for the unemployed in libraries, after school tutorial centres and social enterprise initiatives. Pray that our clients begin to understand that to ‘help others’, is to ‘help yourself.’

Please pray that YETP will get additional funding to improve our Cyber Centre (currently providing access to the internet for the disadvantaged) so that our clients can keep abreast of technological changes, and increase their chances of securing employment.   30

Please continue to pray for refugees and asylum seekers in Hong Kong as the Immigration Department makes important decisions on refugee status determination in the next few months.
