Christian Action frontline staff recently completed a series of mental health first aid training sessions to better equip them to deal with clients experience emotional distress. Please pray for them as they assist our service recipients in the midst of the stressful socio-economic situation.

Fourteen year old Bin Bin may come to Hong Kong from Xining Children’s Home for surgery later this month. Please pray for that to be confirmed. Please also pray for God to guide the surgeon’s hands and for loving foster families to care for him during his recovery.

Praise God! Children from our Mongkok and Sheung Shui centres recently had a public exhibition of their art work as part of the  “Kids Love Hong Kong” campaign, to arouse public awareness of the plight of low-income families and provide opportunities for underprivileged children to learn art as a means of self expression.  They did such a great job!

Christian Action has been helping refugees for over 20 years since its inception as Hong Kong Christian Aid to Refugees (HKCAR). Today there will be a dinner event to recognize refugees and asylum seekers in the past, present and future. We will celebrate the successes of the Vietnamese who have gone on to live in other countries, and also consider the present and future of those seeking protection in Hong Kong today. Pray for us as we continue to advocate for and safeguard the rights of refugees and asylum seekers in Hong Kong.

Give thanks to God. Christian Action Asia (CAA) has raised HK$1.1 million pledges from the vision sharing dinner held in late September – ensuring the continuation of our ministry helping vulnerable children in Qinghai.

Give thanks! Mrs. Cheung our Executive Director will serve as Chairman of HK Christian Council Justice and Social Concern Committee for another year. Pray for God’s wisdom as she helps to represent the Hong Kong Christian Council in sensitive and controversial issues.

Christian Action’s service for new arrival families will be celebrating the birth of Jesus by organizing a number of outings and celebrations for our service recipients. Please pray that they would begin to understand the significance of Jesus birth (and death) as we share His story with them during the celebrations.   8

Please pray for the Filipino domestic helpers living in Hong Kong who have been affected by Typhoon Haiyan through loss of family, friends and property in the Philippines. Pray for Christians to tell them about God’s love and minister His peace to them.

The Training Services Division’s annual corporate luncheon garnered support from our trades partners for another year. Pray that our vocational training will continue to equip job seekers and improve their skills in the workplace.

Our Social Enterprise Division will continue their collaboration with Integrated Employment Assistance Programme Services to place the unemployed into volunteer positions, increasing their work exposure, improving their self confidence and equipping them to be more independent.

Dr Yue Kwok To was appointed new chairman of Christian Action Asia (CAA). Please pray that under his leadership, the team will be empowered as they network across the USA raising money to support orphans and abandoned children across the Tibetan Plateau.

Today is Christian Action’s annual Christmas party. Please pray for all of us as we take time to relax away from the rigorous demands of our service recipients, and remember that Jesus is the one we truly serve.

This week our information technology technicians will be travelling to Qinghai to move our computer network into the new offices we have there. Pray for them as the effectiveness of our remote offices is deeply impacted by the efficiency of the network.

Today there will be a community carnival at Choi Yuen to help create a sense of inclusion amongst members of the public in that area, particularly new arrivals families. Please pray for smooth integration and that the community accepts newcomers warmly. Most of all, a fun day for all!   16

CA will meet a number of other entities working towards providing better community services for occupants of public housing in Kai Tak area, close to our headquarters. Pray for the project as we try to improve the living environment in this area, extending the love of Christ.

Please pray for the members of our ministry coordination team as they draw strength and encouragement from supporting churches, recruiting the mentors so critical to our mentoring programme, and the future of the teens we care for.

There is an increasing demand for after school care services for the new arrivals children in the northern new territories as many of their parents have to work long hours to make ends met.  Please pray for us as we help these fragile people and follow the example of Jesus caring the poor and needy.

Please pray for our Integrated Employment Assistance Programme Sau Mau Ping Centre as they organize a gathering for social security assistance recipients’ families and new arrivals in the community. Pray that they personally experience the joy and blessings that Jesus' birth brings this Christmas.   20

Many of the new arrivals children will return to their hometowns in mainland China during the vacations as their parents cannot spare time to take care of them.  Please pray for safe travels.

We are praying for two new board members to continue in the footsteps of their predecessors who have moved on to serve CAA in a different capacity. Pray for the right person to respond to God’s call!   22

Please continue to pray for the three chronically ill domestic helpers living in our shelters who are too ill to travel but lost their access to public health when their employers terminated their contracts due to their illness. Please pray for justice in the light of this blatant human rights violation.

Please pray that the Hong Kong government will be sensitive to the needs and rights of asylum seekers as they formulate their refugee status determination policy. Please pray that refugees will also be allowed to work while they wait to be resettled.         24

Christian Action has noticed that ethnic minority youth are increasingly vulnerable to negative influences from society - smoking, gangs and drugs. Please pray that when they join our programmes that God’s word will pierce their hearts and they will choose to walk a God pleasing path that is beneficial to their future.

Give thanks.  Mr. A is a client at our Chungking Mansion Service Centre, the first refugee to be granted permission to work by the HK Immigration Department. Pray that his story will speak for the voiceless and bring hope and vision to others in a similar situation.

We will be collaborating with Qinghai provincial government to establish two more children’s homes.  Please pray that Christian Action UK will secure the support both financially and spiritually that we need to substantiate the ministry.   28

One of our staff has been recognized by the Junior Chamber International Ocean, Hong Kong for their outstanding contribution to Social Enterprise. Pray that this will help to promote our green collection programme, and stimulate trade in our charity outlet stores.

Pray for the unemployed welfare recipients at our San Fung Avenue service centre in Sheung Shui, who face a constant financial battle for survival as the cost of living rises in Hong Kong. Pray that our government will implement measures to lessen their burdens, and that our services will fill their needs both physically and spiritually.

This year is coming to an end. Give thanks with us for God’s provision and protection in 2013, and for an even better year in 2014 despite the challenges we face. May His love and blessings be poured out abundantly to the people we serve and families of all staff, board members and supporters of CA.
