Recently there has been a lot of negative news hostile to refugees and torture claimants. In light of this, the HK Immigration Department will conduct a policy review of its screening mechanism. Pray that our government will exercise divine wisdom and perspective to protect the marginalized sojourners fleeing from their homelands for survival and security.  May faith, hope and love be showered on the city.  Amen!

Prayer answered
Give thanks!  Our “Season of Love” charity drive has received a  marvelous response ending in February.  Over 5,000 mugs were sold and proceeds of about HK$660,000 will be channeled to support the disadvantaged children in Hong Kong and Qinghai.

Our Information Technology Department has been facing acute manpower shortage for 9 months.  May God empower the team to strive to provide quality and professional back up support; send us a dedicated and competent candidate to work together with us to improve efficiency in our office.

Congratulations!
Our Training Services Division has secured “Future Stars 2016 – Upward Mobility Booster” organized by the Commission on Poverty.  Our 9-month initiative known as “To be a HERO” aims at engaging 50 senior secondary school students to forge their future careers and a 5-day internship sponsored by a restuarant will also be offered to 20 students.

Forty student mentees under our 5th phase Child Development Fund mentorship programme for Kwun Tong and Sai Kung/Tseung Kwan O District participated in a city orienteering activity last Sunday;  another 40 will play the game tomorrow.  Pray that they will eventually understand that God’s Word is the best manual for life.  Amen!

This morning our Sheung Shui New Arrivals Service Centre’s service users will reach out to deliver lovely handcrafted roses made by the cross-border families to celebrate Mother’s Day with the residents in the neighbourhood.  Pray that the activity will help narrow the divide between locals and mainlanders and promote community integration.

Please pray for the physical and spiritual health of all our staff as they face the daily challenges of working with the poor and deprived.  Pray that we care for our clients as a Mother loves her child.

Last Saturday, 20 teen mentees under the Ministry Coordination Team got dressed up as elderly people to experience the potential challenges the elderly face in their daily life.  Pray that empathy, love and respect between the generations will grow after this experiential activity.    10

Many CA corporation partners will be awarded the HKCSS Caring Company logo today.  Pray that such community partnership will enhance our shared social responsibility to benefit society in future.

The Ministry Coordination Team has just submitted a school-based Child Development Fund proposal.  Pray that we will successfully open up more channels via the school network to help the disadvantaged children in HK to break the poverty cycle and instill in them right life values.

Please pray that our New Arrival Mong Kok Services Centre will secure enough funding to sustain a new after-school care service in the upcoming 2016/17 school year.  Pray that we strive to lessen the grass-roots families’ burden of taking care of their children as they have to work long hours to earn a living to subsist.

Our Sau Mau Ping Integrated Employment Assistance Service Centre managed to arrange work experience for some centre users at a special education school from Mondays to Thursdays.  Pray that this precious experience will fully empower them to take up new employment with courage and give them an opportunity to use their skills.   14

Our Social Enterprise Division will launch a “Green Collection Programme” with a laundry company from mid-May.  Pray for more good-quality new or used clothes so that we can sell them through our outlets and partially finance our charity services.

Upon the completion of professional training in speech therapy and occupational therapy rendered by HK professionals in Xining in late March, the staff in the Xining Children’s Home started a new intervention programme for children that emphasizes training in oral muscles and feeding.   Pray that our ministry will help the vulnerable handicapped children on the Tibetan Plateau grow stronger and bigger.   16

The Social Enterprise Division has introduced a novel barter trade mechanism to our green collection initiative at the HK Polytechnic University from now till the end of May.  Pray that our ministry will spread wider and further especially on campus and our next generation.  May His name be glorified!

Prayer answered
Eric, a teenager from the Xining Children’s Home with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy, returned home safely last month.  Praise God for giving him two miraculous operations and steady recovery within a short period of stay in HK.  Pray that the rehabilitation that follows at his hometown will render this potentially wheelchair-bound boy to walk and run normally one day in the future.

The lease contract of our SHINE Centre (for Ethnic Minorities) will expire this summer.  Pray that we can sustain our service giving aid to our clients in the district.

As there is intensified political polarization, please pray that the government, different parties and the general public will work towards resolving the conflicts and strengthening HK with vitality.    20

CA’s present headquarters will be surrendered to the government in a few years as part of the future public housing plan.  Pray for a miraculous solution that CA will continue to be a voice for the neglected and serve the marginalized and deprived in this area, as we always walk in His path embracing His vision and mission.

Pray that Christian Action Asia (USA) team will succeed in following up people and churches that Mrs. Cheung-Ang Siew Mei, our Executive Director, has connected with and met in her recent vision sharing trip in California.   Pray that new friends and the Qinghai China Programme partners will emerge!   22

Christian Action UK will join the “Mission Day Fair” at St. Andrew’s Church in Churchdown today and erect a booth to promote CA’s ministry helping disadvantaged children in Qinghai.  Pray that more people will be touched to support our vision and mission.

Complaints about irresponsible domestic helper agencies have been reported. Pray that the government will be more sensitive in making relevant policies to safeguard the interests of the employers, domestic helpers and scrupulous agencies through the code of practice or legislation.    24

Our Training Services Division and Integrated Employment Assistance Programme for Self-reliance will conduct several career workshops or information days in Kowloon East and Sheung Shui this month.  Pray that all of them will deeply impact the job seekers who attend.

Christian Action’s flag day is on 4 June!  
Different CA Social Services centres are trying to recruit as many volunteers as possible for the Flag Day.  We need 3,000 volunteers and your full support!  Pray for the best weather, adequate manpower, sound communication and perfect preparatory work for this big day.

Caleb Muyang, who was adopted from Xining Children’s home, will undertake a spinal cord de-tethering surgery in the States in June.  Pray for the best God-sent surgeon to heal him; and that Caleb will be calm and brave enough to withstand every challenge ahead. May God give him a quick and steady recovery.

Our Ethnic Minorities Service Team of SHINE centre and Ambassador Scheme will hold a carnival at a community centre in Yau Ma Tei that includes a variety show performance by the ethnic minorities on Sunday afternoon.  Pray that it will enhance cultural understanding and community integration.    28

Our Social Enterprise Division will collaborate with a well-established bank next week to launch the green collection drive at its bank buildings.   Pray that more people will donate household items, clothes and other useful things they no longer need as they learn that this is another means to do charity work indirectly.

Our Domestic Helpers and Migrant Workers Programme team will reach out to migrant workers this afternoon in Yuen Long.  Pray that the initiative will educate the migrant workers about their basic rights and access to justice in case they face any injustice or abuse.   30

Four students from Lingnan University will join CA as interns from today to July.  Pray that they will be deeply moved to serve the underprivileged and needy; and understand personally the blessing of giving.

Our New Arrival Mong Kok Services Centre submitted a new proposal offering medical screening for our centre users.  Pray that we will successfully secure the funding to provide for the vulnerable and marginalized in as many ways as possible.
