Praise God!
Last week two adopted girls from the States arrived in Hong Kong for orientation in May before starting Christian Action’s   “Back to Serve” in June.  Pray for their easy adaptation, strength, peace and joy from the 6-month of service in the Xining Children’s Home and the Bridging Programme; and that they will empower the local social workers and the disabled children there.

This month, our Sheung Shui Centre will organize different interest groups and workshops on self-exploration, inter-personal communications and job market info for the clients.  Pray that we will continue to provide more need-oriented programmes for the unemployed in one of the most impoverished districts of HK.   4

Give thanks!
In late April, our Migrant Domestic Workers Access to Justice team moved back to St. Andrews Church where we were based many years ago. It is now more accessible downtown and for our clients to find us.  Pray that the new partnership will uphold the same mission and vision as ours to aid these exploited workers when they face any injustice or abuse.

Our Shine Centre will host a multi-cultural variety show in Jordan tomorrow afternoon.  About 300 people including local, ethnic minorities clients and volunteers will stage a cultural performance and design different booths to entertain the residents in the vicinity.  Pray that the ethnic minorities in HK will easily get integrated into the city through our ministry.   6

Thanks should be given to Dr. Yue, one of our board members, for his generosity to hold a photo auction to raise funds for orphans and disabled children in Qinghai today.  Pray for seamless coordination and communication in running the event.  May His name be glorifed.

Prayer Answered
Thanks to all the corporate supporters, donors and friends, our Season of Love Charity Drive 2016/17 has raised almost HK$760,000 to sustain our charity work in Hong Kong and Qinghai.  We sold an unprecedented number of 6,000 gift boxes of egg-rolls a month earlier than scheduled.

Our Youth Development Service Team will organize an 8-day core course for the youth under the Youth Employment and Training Programme this month.  Pray that the beneficiaries will be enriched and equipped to walk on a God-pleasing path through our service.

The children & parents of the Centre for Refugees will be supported by a compassionate donor to receive early childhood educational aid as well as knowledge in parenting, self-care and child protection respectively so as to better prepare them to enter the local schooling system soon.  Pray for His comfort, strength and presence for these sojourners stranded here for temporary refuge.   10

Today is the last day for a fortnight’s “Green Collection Charity Drive” at a private housing estate in the New Territories.  Pray for good-quality used items that we can sell through our charity outlets, that partially finance our ministries in Hong Kong.

The Training Services Division and Social Services Division will host an activity sharing skills in job interviews, training and retraining programmes under the Employees Retraining Board in Kowloon City today.  Pray that the job seekers will seize the opportunity to optimize local resources to enrich themselves and actualize their dreams.   12

Today is the last day of a weekly English oral class conducted by an American couple for 12 students sitting for the HK Diploma of Secondary Education Examination 2017. The initiative co-organized by our Ministry Coordination Team and Yuen Long Church starting from mid-April aimed at aiding them to speak English.  Pray that the beneficiaries will be enriched to persevere in their studies despite the challenges ahead.

Our Training Services Division will host a carnival at a park in Tai Kok Tsui tomorrow.  Please pray that local residents will understand the essence of self-enrichment so as to pursue their dreams for a better life.    14

After returning safely to the Xining Social Welfare Institute, Eric a youngster suffering from cerebral palsy, has continued his regular and intensive rehabilitation programme.  May God empower him to persist in this programme and praise God, Eric has walked 39 steps without any crutches or walker.     16

Please pray for the students completing the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) especially the ethnic minorities youth, that they will discover their passion and direction in life as they map out their future career path under the help of our ethnic minorities services team. Please pray that they learn that God has a plan to prosper them.

The Training Services Division conducted an initiative “Double Preparation” part 1 yesterday and will conduct part 2 tomorrow to enrich the current DSE students to embrace our philosophy: teach a man to fish and he feeds himself for life.  Pray that the attendants will improve themselves through our up-to-date training programmes during the gap period.   18

Our Information Technology Department has secured public funding to replace part of our obsolete capital equipment that we desperately need. The project together with our email server migration will be carried out this month.  Pray for His presence and protection throughout the implementation.  Amen!

Our Social Enterprise Division will open a florist at Tsuen Wan West MTR Station this autumn that is supported by Home Affairs Department.  Pray that follow-up action will work out smoothly as scheduled.

Our Training Services Division will run a seminar in Yau Ma Tei to deal with the dampness of spring in Hong Kong today.  Pray that our trainees will be better equipped through our practical and market-oriented training and retraining programmes to enter the job market with confidence and know-how.

Our youth mentees of the 5th-phase Child Development Fund Programme will go for an outing at Tai Po Waterfront Park today.  Pray that our Ministry Coordination Team will help to instill God’s values into their hearts through this mentorship programme.   22

The Qinghai Child Welfare Association and Christian Action will jointly embark on the phase one pilot initiative offering training programmes for the children of welfare staff located in 10 selected administrative centres of Hainan County, Qinghai.  Pray that it will eventually improve overall child welfare especially those disabled and abandoned in one of the poorest provinces of China.

2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. Mrs. Cheung-Ang Siew Mei, our Executive Director, has embarked on a personal trip organized by Rev. Li Ping Kwong this month to visit some of the historical sites in Germany closely associated with Martin Luther, the reformist.  Pray that she will be spiritually uplifted and persist in following Jesus Christ’s example with zeal and strength.   24

Let’s pray for Christian Action UK that they will be empowered as we stand united in prayer. Pray that more supporters and friends across the country will be moved to support our ministry on the Tibetan Plateau.

Please pray that God will grant the New Horizons Building to Christian Action as our permanent headquarters and the centres for our social services and training programmes.  Pray that we will secure full support from the government, partners, friends, neighbours and staff so that we will strive to serve the neglected and deprived.   26

In light of the increasing reluctance of global governments to receive refugees, our Centre for Refugees has run a pilot project sponsored by a foundation for a maximum of 50 identified refugees to improve their employability in HK.  Hopefully, the Director of Immigration will use his discretion to grant them temporary permission to work.  Pray that this marginalized community will gradually regain their dignity and courage to become self-reliant and repay HK in the future.

Christian Action Asia (USA) will organize prepare several Qinghai Vision Trips in June and September.  Pray that God will connect more passionate friends to help ignite life-impacting changes to the disadvantaged and disabled children in Qinghai.   28

A Placements Service has been recently introduced to the Bridging Programme at Xining Social Welfare Institute in a bid to assist the disabled youngsters to subsist on their own.  Pray that our services will give hope and spread love; and they will learn to live a full and Godly life.

From today to 16th June, we will co-organize a Green Collection drive with Hong Kong Bank at its branches.  Pray that more channels will be established to collect excellent used or new items for resale in our outlets, and the proceeds will support our ministry work.   30

May all of us meditate on His word: “ in quietness and trust is your strength.” Isaiah 30:15b during this public holiday.  Pray that we will be uplifted with His presence and wisdom to withstand any expected or unexpected challenges ahead in unity.
