Today is Dragon Boat Festival.
As part of the festivities, our Ministry Coordination Team will partner with churches to distribute rice dumplings to disadvantaged families in Tin Shui Wai.  Please pray that the recipients will receive God’s love as they receive this traditional festive food.

Please pray for our Training Services Division as we equip ourselves to launch into para-medical services training arena. This is a new and exciting development, meeting the need for better trained and qualified care workers.   4

We have applied for funds to establish a much needed after school child care service in Sheung Shui, one of Hong Kong’s poorest areas. This will enable parents to take up stable employment and support their families.  Please pray!

Praise God!  Xiao Bin, a child from Xining Children’s Home, returned home safely.  Please pray that his quality of life improves after his surgery. There will be many more children to come.

Please pray for all Christian Action staff as we get together to build up our teams, empowering us to serve the disadvantaged; and be united in our efforts to share the gospel through our actions.

Praise God!  A public library in one of Hong Kong’s poorest areas continues to collaborate with our Integrated Employment Assistance Service (IEAS) San Fung Avenue Centre, providing opportunities for the unemployed to gain work experience, and helping to build community by making the candidates feel valued and included.   8

May God bless our Christian Action Asia team in the USA as they follow up on new friendships established during our Executive Director Mrs. Cheung’s vision sharing tour in May.

A group of local university students will soon start internships through our Social Enterprise. Please pray that we are able to teach them about God’s heart for the poor, and that it really is better to give than to receive.   10

Give thanks! Our new Shun Tin training centre has commenced operations this month.  Pray that it will provide job market oriented training programmes for the unemployed in Kwun Tong.

Please pray for the students taking the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Exam. Pray that they will turn to the Lord for guidance as they choose their careers under the guidance of our Youth Employment and Training Programme.   12

The Home Affairs Department is inviting organizations to propose youth programmes for ethnic minorities. Pray that Christian Action comes up with programmes that will truly make a difference in the lives of this vulnerable group of youths.

Pray for the volunteers in our Integrated Employment Assistance Service (IEAS) Sau Mau Ping Centre (most are seeking employment through us) who have started to visit the elderly on a regular basis. Not only are our volunteers learning the joy of giving of themselves and expecting nothing in return, but the elderly are being loved and cherished too.    14

As Christian Action’s green collection drive with HSBC draws to an end, please pray that all those who have donated their unwanted goods to our social enterprise will understand that they are meeting the needs of the poor through their giving, not just making space to accumulate more.

Please pray for all the children Christian Action assists who have been abandoned by their fathers! Pray that men in their communities will be godly examples of a father for those children to look to. Amen.

Please pray for our SHINE centre whose rental contract is due for renewal soon. With rents in Hong Kong soaring, some landlords are implementing 300% increases. Pray for generous landlords who understand that they are investing in their communities by keeping rental increases reasonable.

Many children under the care of our Mong Kok New Arrival Service Centre will soon take their internal final examinations.  Pray that all of them will work hard to achieve their best results.     18

Today the British Council and Christian Action will “Connect with EdArts” to raise funds for the refugees in Hong Kong.  Pray that God will provide for them to learn language through the arts, music and drama so as to be better equipped for the future.

Our Training Services Division will host an adventure activity for our corporate partners tomorrow.  Please pray for ongoing good cooperation as we work out how to meet their training needs, and indirectly enhance office efficiency and productivity in the workplace.   20

Today is the World Refugees Day!   
Activities will be held at St. Andrew's Church to arouse public awareness regarding the plight of the refugees and torture claimants in Hong Kong.  Pray that government and the general public will have empathy for this marginalized sector of the community.

Give thanks!  Bin Bin, a teenager from Xining Children’s Home, returned home safely last month.  Pray for him as he undergoes rehabilitation therapy to strengthen the muscles in his mouth after surgery in March.

Training Services Division will spend two days recruiting students to take our retraining courses. Pray that training will increase the opportunities available to job seekers and those seeking career advancement.

Summer is on its way!  Pray that the students in our mentorship programme will use the opportunity they have over the long holidays to enrich themselves by participating in our self development programmes, interest classes, sports, and career exploration opportunities provided by our ministry coordination team.

Our Training Services Division will run a vocational training workshop for 40 participants from social welfare agencies in Kwun Tong today.  Pray that they will be better equipped to enter the job market through our Employees Retraining Board training programmes.   26

May God bless the foreign domestic helpers pending labour tribunal outcome living in our shelter.  Pray that God will protect them and provide for their needs, and that they will feel loved and cared for at this challenging time in their lives.   28

Praise God! Christian Action Asia has been offered a HK$300,000 matching challenge to support Huangnan Children's Home.  Please pray that these funds will be matched very soon.     30

The city’s minimum wage review (conducted once every two years) ended in mid-May.  Pray that the government will attend to the needs of workers, especially low-income families whose salaries are affected by inflation and soaring rentals. Pray that they strike a fair balance while considering the statutory minimum wage in Hong Kong.
