Children's Homes

Christian Action started co-managing the first children’s home in May 1998, named Xining Children’s Home, while the Huangnan Children’s Home was founded in 2008, which is located in Jianzha Country, Huangnan Prefecture. They are both co-managed with the Civil Affairs Bureau of Xinging, Qinghai. Our third children’s home in Haixi is open in 2011.

 

Xining Children’s Home

Being the first children’s home established in Qinghai, Xining Children’s Home has 100 beds to care for orphans. About 90% of the orphans suffer from different degree of physical or mental disability. We have cared for over 400 children since its inception. Our services include:

Foster Families

Children with certain handicaps are placed with carefully selected families in the community, in order to develop their life skills.

Welfare Workshop

Welfare workshops provide pre-vocational training for older handicapped children in the home, in order to develop vocational skills and to prepare them to live with a degree of independence.

Small Group Home

Small group homes are for children without serious disabilities. In every small group home, the concept of family is cultivated. The social worker develops daily routines for the children to follow and monitors the children’s psychological development.

Rehabilitation Services

Xining Children’s Rehabilitation Centre has been in operation since 2007, providing rehabilitation training and special education service to the children in the children’s home and the community.

Huangnan Children’s Home

Our second co-managed children’s home is located in Jianzha Country, Huangnan Prefecture. Children in this home all come from the 4 countries of Huangnan Prefecture. It has taken in 435 children since its inception, including 68 orphans from Yushu after the earthquake. The services in the home include :

Home Care Services

Professional social workers counsel the children on an individual basis and helped develop the children’s discipline and moral values.

Pre-vocational Training

Children over the age of 15 are given the opportunity to enter vocational training schools based on their personal interest and ability. Courses include Tibetan drawing, hair styling and beauty treatment, and vehicle repair.

Medical and Surgical

We arrange medical treatment and surgery for children who need it. Volunteer doctors from Hong Kong and the USA visited our children’s home and gave each child a physical check-up.

Foster Families

Similar to the Xining Children’s Home, the Huangnan Children’s Home also runs a foster care program, to allow the children living in a normal family environment.
