Ministry Coordination Service

Mission & Vision

Churches and organizations act as partners to serve the community with gospel news to the public.

Ministry & Services

1. Children and teenagers' services

With the support of Hong Kong Church Network for the Poor, Christian Action has started the Church Intensive Community Mentoring Programme since 2007. We aim to arrange suitable mentors for the marginalized children and teenagers. The first and second batches have started off since 2007 and 2008 in Kwun Tong, Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai districts respectively.

We have started the Child Development Fund Pioneer Project in East Kowloon District with the support of Child Development Fund from the Labour and Welfare Bureau in East Kowloon District since 2009. Our second batch has started in Kwun Tong and Tin Shui Wai districts since 2010.

Child Development Fund Projects

Mission & Objectives:

We encourage these children and teenagers to develop an asset-building habit and to accumulate financial assets as well as non-financial assets (such as right attitudes and a proper mindset, personal resilience and capacities as well as social networks), so that their future can be developed on these important foundations.

Targets:

Children & Teenagers

  1. Children aged 10 -16
    1. whose families are receiving Comprehensive Social Security Assistance / full grants from student finance schemes administered by the Student Financial Assistance Agency; or
    2. whose household income is less than 75% of the Median Monthly Domestic Household Income.
  2. Teenagers aged 14-16 are given priority.
  3. Interviews will be arranged for applicants and their parents.

Mentors

  1. Adults who are above 21 years old and nominated by their church or workplace.
  2. Have participated in mentor trainings and interviews.

Key Components:

This project has three major components, namely “Targeted Savings”, “Mentorship Programme” and “Personal Development Plans”. These three components will enhance the children's abilities to manage resources and plan for their own future.

Targeted Savings

The savings target for each participating child and his / her family is set at $200 per month during the two-year savings period. The Government will also provide special financial incentive ($3,000) for each participating child upon completion of the two-year savings programme. The Child Development Fund Pioneer Project has been supported in full by Hong Kong Church Network for the Poor. Our second batch is supported by Hong Kong Church Network for the Poor and The Rotary Club of Kowloon.

Mentorship Programme

We will identify a personal mentor, who is a volunteer, for each participating child. Mentors will provide guidance to children in drawing up and implementing their personal development plans with specific development targets.

Personal Development Plans

The participating children are required to draw up personal development plans with specific targets (both short-term and long-term ones) under on-going guidance from mentors. 70 mentors from 19 churches have participated in the Child Development Fund Pioneer Project. Our second batch has around 200 mentors with 15 churches involved.
