Janaki started her dancing journey in Bharatnatyam, India, where she studied Indian classical dances. She later went to Australia where she learned Polynesian and African dances at the University of NSW. She also became actively involved in belly dancing during this time and she refined her skills by taking courses and workshops from world renowned teachers. She is presently doing further study on Polynesian and Hawaiian Kahiko dances.

Janaki has performed with Hawaiian Grammy Award-winning singers such as Nathan Aweau and Nohelani Cypreano. She has produced and staged shows in Australia and in Hong Kong, and has taken part in numerous TV programmes and arts festivals. She has choreographed for singers such as Michael Jackson and Eason Chan.

Janaki is now based in Hong Kong and she actively performs, instructs and choreographs. She is coaching Kelly Chen, Hong Kong pop singer, and choreographed a belly dance piece for her concert in 2008.

For Orientalia 2008, Janaki will team up with Ghafar, a native Egyptian drummer to perform a belly dance piece.
