Due to the aftermath of the adverse weather situation and for safety reasons, the “Celebration of the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and Blessing Action for Wong Tai Sin District” formerly scheduled in late September was postponed to today. As part of the event, a Traditional Chinese Medicine workshop on Mugwort Wellness Stick will be conducted for participants. Pray that our goodwill will be spread further throughout the city as we endeavour to deliver care and love to the needy and vulnerable.

Mrs. Cheung-Ang Siew Mei JP, our Executive Director, who also serves as the chairperson of the Justice & Social Concern Committee (JSCC) and the Hong Kong Christian Council (HKCC), will meet with Mr. Samuel Yung, the founding President of the Hong Kong Professional and Senior Executive Association together with some JSCC members this afternoon. May God continue to guide her every step and word, that she may be a faithful witness to our Lord’s glory! Amen!

CA is launching a fund raising event for a much needed Food Programme to provide staple nutrition for 500 grassroots families living in sub-divided units in Tai Kok Tsui and Sham Shui Po. Pray that we garner enough financial support for these vulnerable families and they feel cared for especially during the Mid-autumn festival. Amen!

Approximately 110 neighbours, including seniors in our area, were presented with Mid-Autumn Festival blessing bags at ”月滿彩雲慶中秋” (i.e. Full-Moon Festive Celebration at Choi Wan) as a gesture of care and celebration at our Choi Wan Centre, sponsored by a generous donor last Friday. Pray that more members of the public would recognize CA as a light on the hill as we follow Jesus Christ as an example. Amen!

Pray that people from all walks of life including the marginalized communities will share each other’s culture and develop a cohesive community; and our staff will be uplifted to serve the deprived with a caring and cheerful heart.

To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with joy and treasured memories, our Long Ping Service Centre (LPSC) conducted a mooncake-making workshop for mentor-and-mentee pairs under the 10th-batch Child Development Fund (CDF) earlier this month. Pray that we aspire to broaden the horizons of our next generation, especially those from grassroots families, and promote a family connection filled with God’s love and hope through this 3-year mentorship programme. Amen!

The Social Enterprise Department (SED) ran a game booth at the ESG Community event titled as “Island Scout Day” at Hong Kong Police College last week. Pray that we continue to partner with different stakeholders to promote green advocacy and environmental education to the public. Amen!

Today Christian Action (CA) will attend the “76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China in the Social Welfare Sector” organized by the Connecting Hearts and sponsored by the government. Pray that we strive to partner with different NGOs to garner support from the governments and other parties to raise the overall well-being of the deprived community and fill up the service gap in the long term. Amen!

Our Mong Kok Service Centre (MKC) will be renting one more unit, opposite to its present office, for our Afterschool Care Service. Let’s pray that the renovation work will be completed on schedule, and that through this expansion, we may better support grassroots families, easing their burden of childcare as they work long hours to provide for their daily needs. Amen!

The Training Services Division is hosting a two-day exhibition titled as「職場技能 UP Days」today and tomorrow in Tsuen Wan to promote our Employee Retraining Board (ERB) courses for those seeking opportunities to enhance their job skills. Pray that all attendees gain valuable insights into the current job market and recognize the importance of continuous self-enrichment in pursuing their career aspirations.

The On Tai Service Centre (OTSC) is going to host the first meet-up for its Ethnic Minorities (EMs) youth and their mentors under its "3Cs Programme" themed 3 key areas: Chinese tutorial classes, Chance for workplace tours and Career workshops. Let us pray for the students’ success, as we walk alongside them in shaping their career paths and unlocking greater opportunities for social mobility. Amen!

This October is designated as the “Month for Seniors” in mainland China. Our Social Worker team, usually stationed at the Qinghai Welfare Charity Hospital to care for people with disabilities and elderly in their Rehabilitation programmes, will extend special care for the aged in the community echoing with the theme of the month. Pray that the elderly will feel loved and cherished through our efforts.

The clients of our Centre For Refugees, as one of the collaborative partners, participated in the mural painting themed “Finding a Place to Call Home” at Tai Kwun, designed by the artist Eric Okedeh. This exhibition aims to explore the pivotal chapter of the site’s history highlighting its contemporary relevance through the lens of migration and displacement in HK’s past. Pray that we continue to play a role to fostering inclusion and cultural participation in our community.

As the Employment Support Services (EmSS) under the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) Scheme has been replaced by a two-year Support Programme for the Unemployed (SPU), our former EmSS teams at Sheung Shui Service Centre (SSC) and On Tai Service Centre (OTSC) have been actively transforming their service packages to deliver more tailor-made and impactful support including a spiritual one for our clients. Let’s pray in unison for His divine guidance, abundant provision, and steadfast protection to empower the beneficiaries to live a life of dignity and independence as we believe, “Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unproductive lives.” Titus 3:14

To arouse public awareness of poverty, the United Nations signifies the 17th day of every October as “International Day for the Eradication of Poverty”. Hong Kong Church Network for the Poor (HKCNP), in which Mrs. Cheung serves as a board member, will launch a city-wide campaign to arouse public concern towards poverty alleviation. Hopefully, more Christians will be touched to join hands to end persistent poverty.

The Ethnic Minorities Youth Ambassador Team (EMAm) team has been organizing different activities, including a DIY bracelet, board games and a cricket class for EM children across the city in October. Pray that this will be a time of fun, where friendships are formed, horizons are broadened and that they will also feel God’s love through our ministry. Amen!

Our Information and Technology Department is installing a QR reader system to track trainee attendance under the Employee Retraining Board programme. Pray that the installation and testing will be successfully completed by the end of October. May this initiative enhance our service efficiency, ensure timely execution of tasks; thus, enhancing the quality of our training programmes.

As third-country resettlement policies become increasingly restrictive, the hope for future resettlement among our refugee clients continues to dim. Our Sheung Shui Service Centre (SSC) has recently introduced a new 12-hour automated free food dispenser provided by Food Angel, serving 50 daily meal packs to those underprivileged families in the vicinity. Pray that our collaboration will help the needy. Amen!

Today, several alumni and current mentees from the 10th-Batch CDF Mentorship Programme will take part in a meaningful workshop titled “Dialogue Between Volunteer Leaders and Youth”. Pray that they will deeply grasp the essence of voluntary work, and personally understand the profound impact of giving selflessly, without expectation of return. Let’s meditate with what He said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35 Amen!

Our Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs) Programme Team will organize the Migrant’s Health Day today. This outreach initiative seeks to provide free basic medical checkups and health education for MDWs. May our emphasis on the importance of caring for our bodies act as a way to honour Our Lord as the scripture reminds us:  “…our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit”. 1 Corinthians 6:19  Amen.

After School Care Programme continues this month at our LPSC, one of the poor districts where the majority of the disadvantaged sector dwell. Pray that the beneficiary children from the grassroots families will be aided in their academic studies, holistic personal development and communication skills through our work. Eventually they also learn that God has a plan to prosper them. Amen!

Praise God!
The OTSC has successfully received approval to launch a vocational training course designed for non-Chinese speakers and newly arrived individuals. The programme aims to empower participants, helping them adapt to and integrate into the community with greater ease. May they gain the skills and confidence to embrace an independent, vibrant new chapter in life soon. Amen!
